At the simplest level, cancer or cancer cells are cells that have lost the ability to follow the normal control that the body exerts on all cells. In our body, we have billions and billions of cells and they have different functions. It is a very complicated process and if something goes wrong and that control is lost then particular cells escape the normal control mechanisms and they continue to grow which eventually leads to cancer. World Cancer Day is celebrated on the 4th of February every year to spread awareness regarding fighting against cancer and also about ways of how you can avoid it and more importantly how to deal with it. Research shows that in almost 70% of cases, lifestyle affects greatly the fact that a person will have cancer or not. So, why not follow a healthy lifestyle and give your best every day such that it makes a difference. Here are some ways:
CHOOSE EXERCISE: We all know the benefits of exercise in our lifestyle. Proper mood, good blood circulation, good confidence are some long term benefits of doing exercise regularly. But when we talk of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, generally things like fatigue, weakness, and feeling low comes to our mind although it must not be the case every time. From research, it has been seen that exercise is beneficial for someone battling cancer. We all know that to achieve something big we must have to start somewhere. So having a steady walk in the evening is a great step. This will improve the mood of the person and will also boost up the energy. Moreover, it gives the person a strong hope during the darkest phase of his/her life. Again, we all know that in cancer Chemotherapy is done which is a medicinal activity in case of cancer but at the same time, it affects the heart as well. So, if a person exercises every day for 30 minutes also then the condition of the heart will be as normal as before even if it gets exposed to chemotherapy because it gets stronger.
FOLLOWING A HEALTHY DIET: Healthy diet has always been a boon for humans. Although following a healthy diet routine does not guarantee to free from cancer but it can make you less prone to cancer. Consumption of alcohol must be avoided and intake of lots of fruits on daily basis must be done. Sugar must be consumed only in the form of fruits and neglect sugar from other sources. By maintaining a healthy weight and remaining physically active, a person can be at lower risks of being diagnosed with lung cancer, breast cancer, etc. In such a scenario, these weight scales will help.
SOURCE OF ENTERTAINMENT: Every human being after a tiring day of work tries to escape from the continuous rush of daily life by spending some time where he/she will find a source of distraction from the daily rush in the form of music, comedy videos, cooking, reading, etc which will provide a source of entertainment. Similar is the case of cancer patients. During cancer, bringing out some alone time and finding out some entertainment from it will make a patient’s mood lighter and more importantly with no side effects. Here is a good read as to how music helps the mental state.
AVOID POLLUTION: Exposure to a polluted environment and the UV rays of the sun might increase the speed of spreading cancer especially those who have skin cancer. Hence it is advised to stay in a clean and positive environment to heal faster.
AVOID TOBACCO: One of the most dreadful cancers such as oral cancer or mouth cancer is chewing tobaccos. When consumed in excess, the soft parts inside the mouth get rough and hard and this might be the first step towards cancer. Hence, it is highly recommended to keep away from tobacco and hence keep away from cancer.
CONCLUSION
This World Cancer Day, let us take an oath to follow the above-mentioned steps to spread awareness on cancer which might give us the power to not only fight against this deadly disease but also believe in a statement that – CANCER IS JUST A WORD, NOT A STATEMENT.
